HOW TO ENJOY SHOE SHOPPING WHEN YOU HAVE LARGE FEET

Indulge your right to fabulous shoes, whether you have small or large feet, says footwear blogger Shahirah Ahmed.

I write a blog that’s dedicated to women with larger than ‘average’ feet. I’m a US size 12 (sometimes a 13) and a die-hard lover of shoes. All my life I’ve had to fight for gorgeous shoes so trust me when I say I’ve developed strategies for a killer shoe game, no matter what size you wear.

1. Shop Ahead

With the majority of my shoe purchases made online, planning ahead is a necessity. When there’s an event on the radar, I’ll start shopping at least two weeks early to allow for stress-free shipping. I often buy two sizes so I can return the pair that doesn’t fit so well. Or, if neither work as planned, I still have time to shop around. The more time I give myself the better!

2. SHOP YOUR STYLE

I have a long, wide foot so I look for styles that I know will flatter. Basically, anything that breaks up the length of my foot so straps, peep toes, lacing, crossovers, scallop trims… they all work.

SHOP SANDALS

4. MAXIMIZE YOUR OPTIONS

Our options aren’t exactly infinite and, since I’m styling on a budget, I want to keep my feet and my bank account happy. So I always buy shoes that work with different outfits and different seasons. I look for neutral, casual-chic styles that give me the most wear for the cost.

3. STAY ON YOUR TOES

I browse weekly so I’m always on top of what’s out there. It sounds a bit obsessive but I love the hunt and the rush that comes from finding my size in a style I love. Larger sizes sell out FAST, so if I love them and can afford them, I buy them!

5. BOOK A MONTHLY PEDICURE

This one’s important. A larger footprint means a greater opportunity for showcasing your toes, so work it! I think I must own the entire spectrum of nail varnishes from barely-there to rouge noir. And daily moisturizing is a must.

6. GET CREATIVE

DIYs are perfect to make replicas of high end footwear but if you’re not constantly looking through editorials, inspiration can be hard to come by. I love YouTubers like Locks and Trinkets , her DIYs are an inspiration. I have so much fun buying plain shoes and embellishing them with pearls, fur and rhinestones.
