1. More will be expected of you.
Kiddo, later in life you’ll be expected to be an excellent basketball/volleyball/(insert sport here) player simply because you are tall. Just know that whether you are tripping over your own feet or dunking the winning basket, I’ll always be proud of you.
2. Your height is only a number.
Height is just the measurement from bottom to top. A measurement should never decide who you consider to befriend. You wouldn’t choose a friend by the color of their hair would you? Same rule applies.
3. Be happy being you.
In third grade we had to form a line from shortest to tallest on our way to take the class picture. I remember wishing I was shorter so I could stand in the front with the girls. In fourth grade my best friend was a boy and we got to stand next to each other in our class picture. After that I realized it’s not so bad being me.
You won’t shrink or grow shorter legs. You have to be happy with your body and take care of it, it’s the only one you’ll ever get.
Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.
4. Dust it off kid.
This one I’ve been telling you since you began to walk. You tripped and fell quite a bit (as tall people sometimes do). People have already commented on your height ‘for a girl.’ I have come to learn those commenters tend to say whatever pops in their head. Sometimes it doesn’t feel good, just dust it off kid. Keep strength in your heart and let those comments go with the wind.
5. One day you’ll love your legs.
Oh yes, I remember the growing pains. Your latest growth spurt left you quite unhappy with your shins. I’ll remind you of that one day when you step out in a LBD.
6. Stand up straight.
For goodness sake child, stop slouching.
