Happy Feet
I am so excited about Converse coming to LTS! I mean it’s hard enough trying to find shoes that fit larger feet, let alone fashionable ones! I have my eyes set on the All Star OX trainer in Navy. Even as I type I can’t help but visualise my entire wardrobe running through my head and how great my new Converse would look with, well… everything!
There is a reason for my new found urge to shop. I went to see “Confessions of a Shopaholic” at the cinema. Mike refused point blank to come with me, mumbling that it was a “chick flick” and refusing to move. So, I grabbed some girls from the store and we all went after work. It was so funny and great to see so many colourful outfits. Super stylist Patricia Field was the lady behind the clothes, which even rivalled her own wardrobe department for Sex and the City.
With all the gorgeous hues around, I can’t help but wish for some Summer sun. So, I was particularly excited when I finally got my wish, well okay, okay the nearest thing-The new LTS Summer range!
With so much choice I couldn’t resist, especially the gorgeous maxi dresses from Lisa’s debut collection. It’s so nice to be able to able to find a maxi dress that hits the floor rather than mid- calf!
I just need to start planning my Summer holiday now, well if I can afford one after all this shopping.
I will keep you posted!

Heightism
Does your height shape who you are? I often find when I’m wondering around my daily life I get a few odd stares and glances by interested passer bys. Just the other day on my way to meet Suze for some last minute shopping, a couple of builders shouted at me across the street: “Oi, Miss what’s the weather like up there?” To which I replied “What’s the weather like down there”-Grrr! It frustrates me so much; I mean people automatically assume that because you are tall you like to be constantly reminded of it! I mean, I don’t ask short people if they play miniature golf!
Celebrities including Nicole Kidman, at 5ft 11in, have hardly been held back (Although her heels remained suprisingly absent while married to the significantly shorter Tom Cruise) Or Uma Thurman, at 6ft. Jodie Kidd, another six-footer, also insists her height has rarely been a handicap: "I've always been very content with the way I look. The only time I found being so tall a problem was when I was show jumping, my feet used to hang down and knock down all the fences."
People have the perception that if you are tall you are independent and more self reliant than a shorter women. It’s not as if just because you are tall you have more power over people. Tall women like the idea of feeling protected too!
One of my friends is almost supermodel height, yet she is always pursued by men who measure average height or below. She is always complaining that men taller than her rarely ever hit on her. In her eyes, all the tall men are being scooped up by the short women, leaving the short men for the tall women. It’s a dating jungle out there!
Although really she loves the attention of being the tall woman in the relationship and wouldn’t have it any other way!
There’s no pleasing some people…

Spring is in the air and now is the time to embrace the new season, the trends, the styles the looks-After all it would be rude not to.
Sheer fabrics, bursts of floral prints and fresh new nauticals look set to engage us this Spring- I just can’t decide which trend to wear first!
One lady who won’t have a problem with what to wear is fellow tall girl Michelle Obama. Right now it must be every designers dream to dress the new first lady.
At almost 6 feet tall in heels she cuts an athletic and authoritive figure. Experimenting with a variety of shapes colours and styles that complement her height. Which we tall girls know can be a task and a half at times! The girl certainly knows how to power dress and with her long legs she can carry off her signature floor length dresses.
Has Michelle Obama now become the most powerful woman in fashion? You cant deny the level of interest in her wardrobe has certainly struck a chord with the public. There hasn’t been this much interest in a leading ladies wardrobe since Jackie Kennedy’s.
2009 also marked the launch of LTS in the USA, which will hopefully make life much easier for our US customers. And who knows maybe one day Mrs Obama will become a fan?

Spring Launch
So it’s Monday morning again but unlike nearly every other week when the Monday blues start creeping in on Sunday night, I had a bit of a skip in my step today. You see, this Monday is Spring launch. I always get a tad excited around launch as it means new exciting stock to paw over! This time round was no exception, LTS have gone all out with fresh, new designs, colours and fabrics.
This season a taste of the French Riviera hits LTS, with sailor style wide leg trousers, multicoloured accessories and pretty pumps. Floral printed tunics, floppy straw hats and dip dye dresses embrace true Boho style. While suiting hits an all time high with fashionably high waisted trousers and skirts as well as cool linen in vibrant colours.
Lisa Butcher returns with her top trends for dressing fashionably this season and looks great modelling the new collection. I wonder if I will get to meet Lisa? I think I should try and initiate a meeting between the two of us, I mean we have a lot in common; we are both tall, professional women- She loves clothes and I think we have established that I do as well, plus “What not to wear with Lisa and Sam” has a certain ring to it.
By mid- morning the store was looking great and the flurry of customers coming through was pretty constant. All that was left for me to do was choose my uniform, great you might be thinking except I’m a pretty flustered shopper at the best of times, particularly when trying to find something to fit properly.
I have a love/hate relationship with picking my uniform I’m one hundred percent certain this is because I am a Gemini. I’m just not sure what I will feel like wearing two weeks next Wednesday. The younger girls treat picking their uniform like it’s the 100 meter sprint, but I’m more leisurely. However, this time round I don’t know where to begin. I think there is too much choice- HELP!
….If only I had Lisa’s number on speed dial!!

Sale
So the Long Tall Sally sale is in full swing and I haven’t stopped, I’m in desperate need of some TLC- my poor feet! Everyday has felt like a two hour treadmill session. Not that I go to the gym but if I did I’m sure it would. The girl’s have been sniggering at me as I strapped my pedometer to my belt in a bid to prove to them that working during the sale period can burn some serious calories.
Yesterday we received the new in store posters, a small taster of what is to come from the new collection. This got the team excited and soon the bickering had begun of who wanted what on uniform. In truth the new range is looking pretty sleek, I kind of got carried away myself and after putting up all the signage and merchandising the shop front I couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment as the store looked great.
I’m really excited to see what our regulars will think of the new changes. Working here I’ve got to know a few of them pretty well. One lady Sara, comes in every day on her lunch hour looking for an extra addition’s to her tall wardrobe- Now that’s dedication.
Oh what a day, I think I could sleep for a whole week!

Talk about legs eleven, I was reading the paper this morning and came across an article about a lady who holds the record for the worlds longest legs!
I mean I’m 5’10 and considered tall by most peoples standards but for 36 year old Svetlana Pankratova it’s a whole different ball game! I’m sure having the world’s longest legs and being constantly recognised for them definitely has its advantages and disadvantages too! Her record breaking legs stand at 6”5inches tall! I wonder if she has heard about the rest of us tall girls at Long Tall Sally? This got me thinking if I would like to be a few inches taller? Although I’ve learnt to embrace my height I’m not sure if I would choose to be any taller, I’m definitely comfortable as I am.
After a busy day at the store, all I wanted to do was curl up on the sofa with a nice glass of red when I got home but Mike had other ideas! He invited a couple of his friends round for dinner, so my plans were scuppered. We sat down to some light conversation and my infamous home made lasagne, which was completely polished off might I add. Our dining friends had been commenting on my extra inches (Something I am VERY used to) and were asking if it is difficult to buy clothes long enough (Clearly they had momentarily forgotten that I work at LTS!) so I got the chance to brag about the store and the new winter collection, before the men got bored and started talking rugby, Men!

Coffee with Suze
On my way to meet Suze for our regular catch up/gossip, I couldn’t help myself and decided to take a small detour into the local arcade, near our favourite coffee house. Although I love spending (Mike can vouch for that) I’m a pretty flustered shopper at the best of times, particularly when trying to find something to fit properly- trousers and jackets are the worst.
People assume that just because you are tall things hang better but I wish I could fit into the “standard” sized things on the high street, it would be so much easier! I have a love/hate relationship with shopping. When I’m in the mood I love just perusing the racks, brushing aside unwanted sale items and pondering the possibility of stumbling across a shiny treasure. Although other times I just want to collapse at the mere thought of a brutally attacked sale rail.
After trawling the shops with no luck in a world of 32” legs and lacy leggings, I had almost given up until I came across my treasure- A gorgeous, sixties, navy blue, suede handbag with a huge silver clasp from a small stall at the local vintage fair. I love it and it’s virtually never been used, although it does smell a tad musty inside! Realising the time (Time flies when your shopping- doesn’t it?) I headed to Gianni’s to meet Suze only 40 min’s late but I figured when she saw my swish new bag she’d understand.
Two Caramel Frappacino’s later and a few minutes of scowling by Suze she decided she didn’t want to be left out and wanted something new too, she hasn’t bought anything new since having the twins. I didn’t think I could take another moment of shopping, good job I wore flats today- Oh well, here we go again!

Christmas launch
So it’s Monday morning again but unlike nearly every other week when the Monday blues started creeping in on Sunday night, I had a bit of a spring in my step today. You see, this Monday is the Christmas launch. I always get a tad excited around launch as it means new exciting stock to paw over! This time round was no exception, LTS have gone all out with new designs, fabrics and textures.
I mean the new stock is great but I’m just not sure what I will feel like wearing two weeks next Wednesday. The younger girls treat picking their uniform like it’s the 100 meter sprint, but I’m more leisurely. Last season I picked up a printed jersey dress which I wore to death but the whole experience from start to finish took around two and a half hours.
This time round the girls had devised a plan to help in a bid to kerb my dithering and their sniggering! All Paula’s idea, she’s a bit of a whiz on the computer. A few weeks ago she insisted on taking a photograph of me for staff records apparently! Well that’s what she said at the time. She scanned my picture in along with all of the latest LTS products and “ta da” I had my own virtual wardrobe. I must admit, I was secretly jealous of Cher’s virtual closet the first time I watched Clueless. I was a bit dubious at first but I quickly became fascinated by the whole thing, I can kind of see how Mike spends so long playing his play station (Kind of I said) I’m sure I had square eyes at the end of the day but I was incredibly well dressed, well the virtual me. I finally decided on an outfit within 45mins easy peasy!
I just need one installed at home now; just think of the time I would save getting ready, my boyfriend would be a happy man!
